Past perfect tense:    He _____ (draw) a picture.

                              àHe had drawn a picture.

The form of the passive voice

The passive sentence is formed by:

i. changing the positions of the two nouns;

     He drew a picture.

           A picture was drawn by him.

ii. changing the main verb into the perfect tense.

           He drew a picture.

           A picture was drawn by him.

iii.             Adding the appropriate part of an auxiliary verb

Active sentences in the other tenses can also be changed into passive sentences in the same way:

Simple past tense:   He drew a picture.

A picture was drawn by him.

Past continuous tense:   He was drawing a picture.

                                   A picture was being drawn by him.

Past perfect tense:  He had drawn a picture.

                                 A picture had been drawn by him.
